Our Teachers

Ms Raquel, Owner & Program Director

Raquel has a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from URI and has worked in childcare for over nineteen years. Through her experience she noticed that not all care providers are created equal.  It was because of the disappointments she had seen in her career that she was motivated to start a home daycare that offered the kind of quality and dedicated care that every child deserves.  Her home daycare, Rei of Sunshine, operated successfully and at full capacity for over four years.  With this success, Raquel had a new goal of reaching more children on a larger scale.  She wanted to start a center where kids could grow and learn in a safe, clean, nurturing environment that had all the comforts of home but with the structure of a school and was inspired by nature.  She partnered up with her sister Carla to create The Learning Garden and together they are committed to providing quality care to every child enrolled in their program. Raquel lives in Warwick Neck with her husband and two young sons, Lucas and Leo.

Ms Kathy, Pre-Kindergarten Lead Teacher

Kathy graduated with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from RIC in 2006.  She then began her career teaching 3-5 year olds at the same center as Raquel.  In their 2 years of working together, Raquel was impressed by Kathy's patience, positivity, and ability to make learning fun.  For those reasons and more, Raquel had to make Kathy a member of the TLG team.  Kathy also brings personal experience with her as a mom of a 6 year old girl and 2 year old boy.

Nurse Pat, School Nurse

Pat is the friendly face that will greet you every morning in the Early Infant room.  She's led an ambitious and generous career in service to others both in the fields of nursing and education.  She received her BS in Elementary Education and Masters in Early Childhood Education from RIC and later went back to obtain her Bachelors Degree in Nursing.  She's held positions as a Principal, Guidance Counselor, Teacher and Staff Nurse and so brings a varied and valued wealth of experience and expertise to our team at TLG.

Ms Tiffany, Site Coordinator

Tiffany began her career in childcare nine years ago at the same child care center where Raquel was working at the time.  They became friends and Raquel got to see firsthand what a natural Tiffany is with the infants.  In 2011, Raquel needed to hire an assistant for her home daycare.  She needed someone who was positive yet firm, who would get down on the children's level to engage and play with the kids, and to assist in the daily responsibilities of the program.  She immediately thought of Tiffany.  Tiffany exceeded Raquel's expectations and went above and beyond her duties to ensure that the day ran smoothly and the classroom was always clean and organized.  In 2007 Tiffany began attending classes in Education and is currently on track to graduate from Rhode Island College.
